Claire Ferrarotti has been selected as the 2014 recipient of the annual Harwinton Outstanding Citizen Award, which will be presented for the 40th time at a banquet in her honor on Friday, April 25, at Fairview Farm Golf Course. Formerly from Torrington, she and her husband, Bill, have been Harwinton residents since the 1970s and have raised their family here. Mrs. Ferrarotti was a Torrington High School graduate and attended Post College.
Her contributions to Harwinton are many and include her involvement as a voting official at which she ensures that town voters are registered and understand how to place their votes. She has been an active volunteer in many civic groups that include the Harwinton Ladies Society, the Harwinton Little League, the Lewis S. Mills Athletic Booster Club, and various committees for Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
As her family was involved with the Harwinton Center Fire Department, Mrs. Ferrarotti became a member of the Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. She has volunteered countless hours for the Harwinton Center Fire Department booth at the Harwinton Fair each year. She has volunteered at numerous fundraiser breakfasts, chicken barbeques, and at Red Cross blood drives. She is also prepared to respond to significant fires with other auxiliary members to help support the firefighters.
Mrs. Ferrarotti has been an active member of the Bronc Callahan Community Fund for several years and serves on its Board of Directors. She has been deeply involved in preparing and delivering food baskets for the needy, volunteering at the Community Fund’s fundraising events, and has donated toys and clothing each year to those in need.
When asked about being chosen as this year’s honoree, Mrs. Ferrarotti commented, “I love volunteering, I really enjoy helping where needed”.
