Harwinton's First 25 Home

Above is a view of the Central Harwinton area with the
first division home lots drawn by the 25 Proprietors
and voted by the subscribers on December 27, 1732, pursuant
to the report surveyed and perfected by the committee
December 8, 1732.

In pursuance of the vote
of the proprietors of that tract of land bounded east on Farmington,
west on land belonging to some of the inhabitants of Windsor called
Harwinton, north on land called the Southeast Township belonging
to sons of the inhabitants of Hartford, south on land belonging
to ye Colony of Connecticut at their meeting on the 27th day of
December 1732, we the subscribers proceeded in the first place to
lay out a highway ten rods wide for a Country road from Farmington
west bounds to the east bounds of ye said tract of land called Harwinton
along by the south bounds of the farm Mr. Messenger now dwells upon,
there at three quarters of a mile distance of thereabouts from said
Farmington west bounds, we laid out a highway of ten rods wide extending
north and south the length of the first teer of lotts hereafter
mentioned which is to be continued both ways thru ye whole propriety
then at a miles distance west of ye last mentioned highway we laid
out another of ten rods wide extending the length of ye 2nd teer
of lotts hereafter mentioned? And this likewise to continue thru
ye whole propriety then we began at a convient distance from the
aforesaid Country road and layed out.
